Bonnie Bivens, Client Services Manager
If you’re a client of Kenwood, then chances are you’ve met our Client Services Manager Bonnie. A fixture here at Kenwood for the last 20 years, Bonnie exemplifies the “heart” of Kenwood- exuding sincere joy, friendship, and compassion for our patients as well as their human guardians.
When she’s not hard at work here at Kenwood, Bonnie likes to spend time with her family, including two cats and a roly-poly pittie girl named Misty. She loves to read, go to the movies (especially scary ones- she and her daughter are big fans), and take walks. She also really loves sleep, and her husband’s home cooking (we’re all quite jealous of her daily gourmet lunches). Bonnie is very close to extended family in Pittsburgh (including being an avid Steelers Fan), but her immediate family is here in the Washington Metro area, where she grew up.
Fun fact: Bonnie has worked as a veterinary receptionist since the age of 14! Following in her mom’s footsteps, her daughter Ashley now works here at Kenwood as a receptionist and veterinary technician as she pursues a degree in veterinary technology!
One last tidbit about Bonnie: Yes, she really is that cheerful ALL the time.
Julius C Fowler, Boarding and Facilities Manager
With 30 years of experience working with animals, Kenwood Animal Hospital’s Boarding and Facilities Manager Julius Fowler is well equipped to handle the many challenges of his dual role. “The doctors and staff at Kenwood Animal Hospital are truly exceptional people,” he says. “They deeply care about the well-being of all animals – not just the ones we serve. They go above and beyond when it comes to the welfare of a pet.” We’re proud to have had Julius in the Kenwood family for 20 years now!
At home Julius has a Chihuahua named Jerome and a cat named Thunder.
Shonna Thomas, Operations Director Canine Clubhouse
Shonna joined the Canine Clubhouse in August 2022 as a Customer Service Representative and quickly distinguished herself through her dedication, leadership, and passion for exceptional customer care. Through hard work and a commitment to excellence, she advanced into the role of Operations Director in 2025, where she now oversees the day-to-day operations of the resort while ensuring every guest receives the highest level of care.
With a background in hospitality and restaurant management, Shonna brings a strong foundation in customer service, team leadership, and operational excellence. Her experience has translated seamlessly into the pet care industry, where she is committed to creating an outstanding experience for both pets and their owners.
Shonna is passionate about making every stay at the Canine Clubhouse a positive one. She believes that every guest deserves individualized attention and exceptional care, and she takes pride in giving pet owners the peace of mind and confidence that their beloved companions are safe, happy, and well cared for while away from home.
Outside of work, Shonna enjoys spending time with her two daughters and her adorable pit bull, Mia, who reminds her every day why providing outstanding pet care is so important.
Miranda Gilbert, Practice Manager
Miranda entered the veterinary field shortly after graduating from college, beginning her career as a zookeeper. She joined Kenwood in 2021 as a veterinary assistant and quickly grew into a leadership role, taking over as the leader of the technician team in the fall of 2023. In the fall of 2026, Miranda stepped into her current role as Practice Manager.
Although her role has evolved, Miranda still loves being hands-on with patient care. You’ll often find her working in surgery or on the treatment floor, supporting the team and making sure every pet receives the highest level of care and has the best possible experience while at Kenwood. She especially enjoys leadership development and helping team members build confidence, grow their skills, and reach their professional goals. She is passionate about creating a positive, supportive team environment where people feel empowered to learn and succeed.
Originally from Upstate New York, Miranda earned her degree in Biology from Alfred University, where she was a standout two-sport athlete in soccer and lacrosse. Her background in animal care, leadership, and teamwork has shaped her approach to veterinary medicine and practice management.
When she’s not at Kenwood, Miranda enjoys exploring Virginia with her fiancé and dogs: Oliver, a miniature dachshund; Tommy, a black Lab; and Boxers, a foxhound. She loves spending time outdoors with them on their little farm.
Patrick Dougherty, Business Manager
Patrick Dougherty joined Kenwood Animal Hospital as Business Manager in January of 2018. You may recognize him, as he is Dr. Katy Dougherty’s middle son.
With a background in business and a passion for process improvement and leadership development, Patrick’s role is to continuously seek ways to enhance the lives of pets and pet owners, and help the people around him reach their professional goals. He believes that investing in people, creating opportunities for growth, and building strong teams are essential to providing exceptional care.
Patrick graduated from Lehigh University with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and holds an MBA from American University’s Kogod School of Business in Washington, DC.
Outside of work, Patrick enjoys exploring Maryland’s vast natural resources with his wife, daughter, and sons, along with their Golden Retriever, Buck. He also enjoys watching Washington, DC’s sports teams and all things motor racing.
